"I had never picked up a paintbrush in my life and couldn't draw for toffee, but it didn't matter. I started with a cut-out and now I find images I like off the internet I use for reference. We always have a good laugh too - makes me feel good.' The Creative Arts Department have two well equipped rooms, all materials and tools being provided by ARRCC, including specially adapted tools to assist any disability. Guidance and support is offered to members, encouraging their creativity in a wide range of mediums, ranging from papermaking and textile production to painting, fine art and design and mosaic work. All this support is tailored to the member's needs and goals. Other skills can also be developed, such as using computers to source information and images from the internet. The beautiful work our members create is exhibited and sold at the ARRCC annual winter exhibition as well as at other venues. Members also often become involved in community based projects such as creating the wonderful mosaic work on display to the public at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Our wonderful band of Volunteers, led by ARRCC's professionally trained staff are invaluable. Many of them are themselves qualified teachers and artists and their cheerful enthusiasm adds to the happy atmosphere in the Department. See Gallery for an example of the work created in the workshops |
