"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, light to the imagination, a charm to sadness and life to everything". Plato Music Therapy is an interactive primarily non-verbal intervention. It provides a process through which clients can express themselves, become aware of their feelings and relate more easily. Music Therapy can provide new insights into a client's functioning. Music is a powerful and emotional medium which can affect us all deeply. In Music Therapy sessions, interactive music is spontaneously created by the client and therapist. The client does not need any musical skill in order to make use of Music Therapy. Accessible instruments are used. These include easily played percussion instruments and larger instruments such as piano, gongs, cymbals and conga drums. |
Liz Butt State Registered Music Therapist. BA (hons) PGCE, Dip MT I have been part of the ARRCC team working as a Therapist for the last 4 years, having over 20 years experience as a music therapist working with all age groups, being state registered. I believe we have lost the art of listening to each other and to ourselves. Through sound making together I aim to help the client listen to himself and his needs. In this way we can learn to face our difficulties, regain our inner balance and find healing. |
By establishing a relationship through music the client may experience and explore new ways of relating, leading to change, development and healing. Music Therapy is about restoring harmony and balance; finding integration at all levels. Healing can take place on all these levels: physical, emotional and spiritual. I use a variety of instruments such as tuned percussion, drums, gongs and Tibetan bowls. |
